Engineering Outreach Reimagined
What: Connections, the engineering outreach department at Queen's University, enhances STEM accessibility. Their mission is to provide pre-university students with hands-on engineering experiences to inspire interest and diversity in the field. They develop curriculum-aligned tasks for the Ontario K-12 Curriculum, offer support for educators integrating engineering skills, and build positive community relationships.
My Role: Currently, I specialize in creating engaging robotics projects and lessons tailored for high school students. My expertise lies in Arduino-based projects and space-related activities. From developing gesture-controlled cars to guiding high school students in the process of launching satellites, I aim to provide unique and hands-on learning experiences. My focus is on inspiring and educating students in the exciting fields of robotics and space exploration.

My Journey at Connections
April 2021 - August 2022
In my initial role at Connections, I took the initiative to develop free coding and machine learning courses tailored for high school students, particularly during the pandemic.

Courses: Machine Learning Applications (letter recognition, animal classification), Python Fundementals, and Creating a Virtual Assistant.
April 2022 - Present
During my time at Connections, I've been dedicated to making mechatronics education unique, exciting, and accessible. Recognizing the absence of such programming, I took the initiative to lead a comprehensive mechatronics program, resulting in a sold-out enrichment program. This endeavor not only broadened educational opportunities but also showcased my commitment to breaking down barriers and ensuring mechatronics is accessible to a wider audience.

September 2022 - Present
I initiated an innovative program inspired by my experiences with QSET, where high-school students learn the fundamentals of mechatronics and space engineering. The program culminates with the students launching their own satellites. This project is on-going with the launch set for the middle of March!
